Salinity reduction by Sarcocornia neei in hydroponics: implications in marine aquaculture wastewater remediation

چکیده
Salinization has become one of the main environmental problems affecting worldwide ecological balance. The effluent discharge saline industrial effluents, such as marine aquaculture, and its rapid increase in global production last decades an important part this problem. halophyte Sarcocornia neei (Lag.) proven ability to remove assimilate nutrients from wastewater, making it a promising candidate for application phytoremediation systems. In study, reduce water salinity was evaluated. For purpose, plants were reared 53 days artificial effluents at four different salinities: A) 0, B) 10, C) 20, D) 30 g L-1. A significant salt reduction obtained all treatments with NaCl addition. maximum decrease achieved treatment C, reducing 6.91 ± 1.52 L-1, approximately 35% total added beginning trials. Plants tolerated content ranges; no mortality or stress symptoms observed any treatment. results are first approach suggesting that S. could be used bio-desalination wastewater. Further studies needed evaluate pilot systems integrated into effluents.

Phosphate binding polymeric hydrogels for aquaculture wastewater remediation
Methods that will remove conventional nutrient pollutants such as reactive phosphorus, even at extremely low concentrations, from wastewater effluents are a major need in the aquaculture industry. In this study, novel phosphate binding crosslinked poly(allylamine), PAA · HCl, polymeric hydrogel materials were developed, which efficiently bind phosphate anions in aquaculture wastewater effluents...
متن کاملUse of constructed wetland systems with Arundo and Sarcocornia for polishing high salinity tannery wastewater.
Treatment of tannery wastewater is problematic due to high and variable concentrations of complex pollutants often combined with high salinity levels. Two series of horizontal subsurface flow constructed wetlands (CWs) planted with Arundo donax and Sarcocornia fruticosa were set up after a conventional biological treatment system operating at a tannery site. The aim of the CWs was polishing org...

shores. Aquaculture—the farming of fish, shellfish, or aquatic plants—has grown rapidly over the past several decades, and that growth is accelerating. Today, some 4,000 aquaculture enterprises in the United States, most of them small to mid-size, supply Americans with Atlantic salmon, hard clams, oysters, shrimp, and nearly all the catfish and trout we eat. As the industry matures, it holds bo...
متن کاملBiologically Induced Deposition of Fine Suspended Particles by Filter-Feeding Bivalves in Land-Based Industrial Marine Aquaculture Wastewater
Industrial aquaculture wastewater contains large quantities of suspended particles that can be easily broken down physically. Introduction of macro-bio-filters, such as bivalve filter feeders, may offer the potential for treatment of fine suspended matter in industrial aquaculture wastewater. In this study, we employed two kinds of bivalve filter feeders, the Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas an...
متن کاملSalinity Implications of Wastewater Irrigation in the Musi River Catchment in India
As a consequence of increasing urbanization and shortage of good quality water, wastewater irrigation is a growing phenomenon in many arid and semi-arid countries. A common characteristic of wastewater is high salinity, with cities typically adding 200 – 500 mg l of total dissolved solids compared to the source water supplied to the city. Wastewater from the city of Hyderabad in southern India ...
